             Neil & Adam

By: The Covens DJ YOYO AND  DJ SAVAGE BRIT

The Coven recently had a interview with the band Neil & Adam and is excited to share with you our listeners. We hope you will enjoy as we take you through this amazing Duos journey. They start playing together since their late high school years in the late 90's. They stated that they have always been a duo and had never been solo. We asked them what do you feel the drawbacks and advantages of being a duo was. They stated "The number of bands that are already out there, it  can be difficult at times. Neil can carry a tune. We do our own song writing, we do everything ourselves. Being a duo on stage can be hard at times." We ask them what made their band more different than other bands out there. They replied: “We don't set out to emulate a certain sound or another that other artists do, But we really just want to set out and to be ourselves. We have a good team and system. We want the listeners to feel what we felt when we wrote the music."

Neil and Adam are truly gifted and have stayed true to their mission about what they wanted to be and sound. They have come a long way already and are already achieve a  great many accomplishments. We at The coven Radio have been honored to talk to them and hear their music and get to know them. Next we wanted to to know when writing songs to perform who composes the lyrics and instrumentals. Was  is one individual or is it the effort of the duo as a whole. "They write their music as a team and also stated. "We do 50/50, Neil is an amazing singer as well as doing harmony melody and lyrics. Adam put it together and it’s a really good structure." So these guys work well together and as a duo bring a their own unique sound to their fans." They are definitely a great team and are a true testament of what it take to become successful in the music industry today. When songs are written what is the motivation, muse or inspiration behind their music?  Adam replied "It’s the keyboard and guitar. You put into feeling what you don’t have words for,  different progressions and different feels. And then I go to Neil and put stuff together. Past relationships sometimes try to put together a story everyone wants to hear, a good story everyone can relate to what we go through in the good and bad times. What motivates us is our history what we been thru. We have a new song that we hope will be out about an affair."

We asked why people should come and see the duo perform. "Again going back to giving them the emotion behind the music. Pit across a positive message and happy progression we mix it up. We want them to like it and feel it. We want them to walk away happy and want to hear more from us." they replied. We definitely like a great show with lots of energy and a great time with great music. I have to say I genuinely believe that is what these guys will give. So how do you look visually and musically? "Ours is a broken down feel. It would be great if we could do a full on to in between unplugged somewhere in the middle. To feel like there is a real connection." We continued by asking what and who were you personal influences to bring you to the music scene? "We both grew up in music, Adams dad was a songwriter in Motown in the 70's.There was always a magic growing up with it. Neil talks about his  being related to Reba McEntire's drummer. The plane crash in 90's was hard." It is interesting to see the different influences that lead to our love of music. What are some of the struggles you and the band have endured together?

How do you think it has impacted you as a group? “It's not always easy to keep bands together, but we always had each other. Struggles are hard when the real world catches up to you. Time management can be hard. Things have to flow, you have to know sometimes when it don’t it can be difficult to keep a core group together. I can agree with them as to the real world catching up. As we all have more than likely been there. That it makes it difficult for thing to seem to flow. And yet you can still hear the unique sound the band has made of themselves as well, again not losing touch of who they are as artists. We continued on asking them what they think most bands struggle with more when beginning and being a local band? They inserted " Finding your sound you go threw the phase where you have an artist you love. It is what you get going thru first Adam wanted to be Eddie Van Halon. Everyone liked Phish and wanted to be like them. But its finding your sound, what lasts the longest is finding your sound. You can expand it.

These guys have definitely found there own style and unique sound and we love them here at Coven. So how does music affect the world around you in your everyday life? "If I’m in a good mood i want to hear music. I am always in a better in a good mood and music intensifies it. Makes life better, Enhances everything good and bad, It’s everywhere!" What do you think about the music industry today? Do you think there is a lot of positive change today from what there was in yesteryear's? After a quick moment of thought they added. "Umm.. So people say music sounds the same that its cookie cutter. But, the writing is still good I loved the 80's it was very exciting. They say streaming was gonna kill us in 2000's. Maybe it has in some ways, but I hear great lyrics great music but not as exciting as it was." What advice can you give to other bands starting out about how to promote and get themselves heard? “Twitter makes contacts, one thing we try to do a lot is Twitter. Look into other artists and make friends. There are other artists that are great so befriend them. Get out there and share each others music and build a networks. Promote the stations promoting you and mention them on Facebook and twitter. Build a website and promote everyday. Listen to new artists and make friends. You can have an amazing song but if you are a jerk you wont get out there and heard."

We at The Coven will keep an eye at for Neil and Adam and all their endeavors and wish these two the best.
